Course Information

A medium risk confined space exists where there are access issues an expectation of a specified risk and where escape breathing apparatus must be taken in. Course will cover the agenda as set out by the City & Guilds and will result in delegates being both aware and compliant where recognising and working in medium risk confined space is concerned.

Who Should Attend?

Those who work in Medium Risk confined spaces Medium risk confined spaces exist where there is a realistic expectation of encountering a specified risk or the possible introduction of a specified risk during the work activity. It will also not be possible to have a person permanently attached to a safety line and is usually a team entry which moves away from the entry point (e.g. man entry sewers utility service subway tunnels tanks chambers aqueducts and complex wet wells).

Joining Instructions

All candidates must bring photo ID. Candidates must also be a minimum age of 18 years old and be medically fit to wear breathing apparatus and able to enter a confined space. Candidates should generally not have problems with eyesight or hearing, heart disease, high blood pressure, epilepsy, fear of heights / confined spaces, vertigo, giddiness / difficulty with balance, impaired limb function, alcohol or drug dependence or psychiatric illness. Sunbelt Rentals are working with The Dyslexia Association to support delegates who may be dyslexic/neurodiverse. If you require additional support, please contact us prior to the training. All Low Risk and Medium Risk courses will be delivered using the 'hooded' style escape set. If you require training on a 'mask' style escape set then you will be required to be clean shaven and notify the training team in advance. Due to the nature of confined space work and the emphasis placed on communication, there is only the provision for the practical and knowledge assessments to be undertaken in English. City and Guilds do not permit interpreters for this course. We reserve the right to exclude unsuitable delegates from training courses. Lunch and Welfare: Lunch is not provided on the course, however, complimentary tea and coffee will be provided throughout the day. You’re welcome to bring your own lunch; canteen and welfare facilities are available. You will also be made aware of local food outlets on the day. Parking: We operate a reverse only parking policy at all Sunbelt Rental Ltd locations. Parking availability is limited. Certification: On successful completion and payment of the course candidates will receive a City & Guilds certificate valid for three years. Confirmation of training for those successfully passing can be provided on request and used while the certificates are processed which can take up to 28 days.

Health & safety overview. The Confined Spaces Regulations 1997 & Approved Code of Practice. Identification of risks and their control. Workplace safety. Weils Disease and sewage decontamination. Hazardous atmospheres and gas monitoring. The risk assessment process. Operation of safe systems of work. Use of permit to work control measures. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) pre use inspection and safe operation (IP rated intrinsically safe and ATEX approved). Fall arrest systems. Safe entry/exit. Emergency procedures. Theoretical and practical training on escape breathing apparatus..

Welcome to The Training Centre in Burton-on-Trent! Getting here is straightforward. If youre coming from the nearest main road, simply head towards Burton and take the A38, continuing for about 2 miles. When you reach the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto the A5121. After 0.3 miles, turn left onto Derby Road, and then continue for another 0.5 miles. Finally, take a right onto Hawkins Lane, and youll find The Training Centre on your left after just 0.2 miles.
